Hillary Clinton before Senate Foreign Relations Committee

Senator Hillary Clinton, soon to be Secretary of State, is before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee today and says the United States has to address Israel's security needs and the Palestinians' aspirations for a state of their own.

Is the Senate Foreign Relations Committee going to actually scrutinize Senator Clinton for this post or is it a done deal?

Take a wild guess... DONE DEAL!

As for the Gaza situation there is very little Foreign Relations taking place.

Meanwhile the bombs keep falling, the bullets keep flying, and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee can sit around rubber stamping the good Senator from New York State that was almost President of the United States of America.

In any event, the statement is as innocuous as can be. Yes, why not just state the obvious and have everyone in Senate Foreign Relations Committee  do absolutely nothing to try and rectify the situation.

Sounds like Business as Usual to me! Someone needs to do something about the situation NOW. Not in a week or a month. 

So here's my question: What will the incoming US President DO about the Palestinians and the Israelis or is that a question everyone will continue to evade?

Democracy coming to Iraq.

Well it's about time. If you believe it.

I view the whole situation as a bad joke.

Sure, the violence is not as bad as it was,

but what does that prove? Humm!

I guess real democracy in Iraq will happen if there is

real equality between all the different factions 

of Iraqi society.

Anyway, I won't hold my breath yet, but it's 

a good thing for the Americans to get out of there!

Considering that they should have never been there,

it IS a step in the right direction.

But I have a question: 

Are the Iraqis really ready to control their country

and will it really be what we call Democracy?

Probably NOT!

Gaza Strip is a Battleground Again!

So the Gaza Strip is being pounded by Israeli rockets. This, according to the Israelis, is in retaliation to the recent mortar and rocket attacks by Hamas.

So all I can say is: Here we go again!

I don't know if it's just me, but all this violence is beyond reason, on both sides. These two groups continue to kill innocent people, and for what - a strip of land that both groups have been fighting over for centuries? Are these people not neighbors?

The international community is picking sides and issuing statements in support of one or the other when the only rational response is that the whole affair is ridiculous and should STOP NOW!

Leaders on both sides should be arrested and thrown in jail for mass murder.
Yeah Right! Oh! I guess this is a war so they're not really criminals! Whatever!

As far as I'm concerned, the violence in the Middle East isn't about Land... it's about Hate!

If there is a God, and that's a question for another day, and God sees what is happening in the Gaza Strip, he must be pissed!

Maybe he'll flood the whole area so there'll be no land to bomb each other over. How many people would be spared the death and mayhem these tribes are raining down upon each other. Give me a break.

There isn't one good reason for any of the violence to continue.

And Yes, I've got a question:

Why in Gods' Name can't we just get along with each other?

Let's get Real!

All this talk about the lack of fiscal action is a total red herring.
All the talk of a 62% majority of Canadians is bogus!

Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion was clearly rejected by the Canadian people. He is soon to be a back-bencher.

Jack Layton has no other viable way to ever sit on the government side of the house.

A formal CONTRACT with the Bloc is beyond ridiculous.

I have never, in my 50 years, seen such back-room tactics designed to deceive the Canadian public.

The Conservatives and the Prime Minister clearly have shown that they have difficulty being cooperative in the house. They should have known better than to try and kill the political funding which the opposition parties so desperately need. Trying to restrict the right of public servants to strike was also a poor position to put forward at this time.

However, it really makes no difference if they are right or wrong and these policies have been dropped. They desired effect was achieved.

The Liberals, NDP, Bloc, and all the other parties in the country should hold the government to a high standard. This is why the people elected a minority government.
The spirit of cooperation has to work among ALL PARTIES.
The Conservatives did alter their agenda.

So, here's my question: Did the opposition parties plan to overthrow the conservative government before the financial update of last week?

The new reality in our country is that we may be taken over by politicians that have just recently been rejected by the electorate. Here is my question: Why do we have a constitution that allows the representative of a foreign monarch to decide any of the issues in our sovereign country?

Big Debate Tonight!

So tonight is the big debate here in Canada and I just don't know if I can actually sit through it! But all is not lost! I can watch the VP debate coming out of the USA which is bound to be much more interesting.

Anyway... my big question is: Why are Canadian politicians so boring lately? One would think that with four leaders debating it would be a lively affair. If the french version is any indication; they say Dion actually won it, I'll be watching PBS.
